Karlsruhe Nano Micro Facility (KNMFi)

Profile

KNMFi facilitates innovations for structuring and characterising a multitude of functional materials at the micro- and nanoscale.

The Karlsruhe Nano Micro Facility (KNMF) is operated as an open innovation user facility since October 2008. It is founded by the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and funded by the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers (HGF).

Following the corporate philosophy of open innovation, the large-scale user facility provides users from industry and academia open and in case of public work free access to a dedicated set of multimaterial state-of-the-art micro and nanotechnologies. Our worldwide unique technology portfolio and leading expertise stimulates the users’ current needs and expectations for structuring and characterising a multitude of functional materials, components, and systems at the micro- and nanoscale. With an additional technology investment budget of 23.3 Mio. Euro, allocated by the HGF, regular updates and major investments are subject to a continuous improvement of both, the value of the facility and the welfare of its users. Currently, KNMF unifies 24 technology clusters and 50+ scientists managing the following laboratories:

  • KNMF Laboratory for Micro- and Nanostructuring combines an impressive set of constructive bottom up and ablative top down structuring and replication technologies.

  • KNMF Laboratory for Microscopy and Spectroscopy stimulates the current and future trends for high energy microscopy and spectroscopy.
